The 152nd Georgia General Assembly was a successful one for inclusive post-secondary education! It is our pleasure to announce to you the Senate honored a portion of the request for funding inclusive post-secondary education (IPSE) in Georgia. With the support of Senators Butch Miller (R-Gainesville) and Jack Hill (R-Reidsville), the senate added $100,000 to the FY2014 budget for inclusive PSE in Georgia. $50,000 will go to support the already established program, Kennesaw State University Academy for Inclusive Learning. The other $50,000 has been marked for the development of an IPSE program at a college/university in south Georgia. A specific location for the future IPSE program has not been chosen, but we are working with our connections in south GA to determine which school will be the best fit for the next IPSE program. This is an exciting step in the movement of IPSE in our State!
A very very special thanks to Rita Young of All About Developmental Disabilities and D’Arcy Robb of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities for their countless hours of advocating for this request. Also, a big thank you to all of the statewide advocates who took time to keep pressure on legislators for the need for more IPSE opportunities in Georgia. Without these individuals, none of this would be possible.

Consortium Mission
The Georgia Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Consortium seeks to create opportunities for students who have historically not had access to post-secondary educational opportunities. Members of the Consortium are committed to providing information and training resources for individuals, families, colleges & universities, and agencies to achieve the goal of inclusive PSE opportunities for all.
What We Are About
Too many young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities find themselves sitting at home with nothing to do, and nowhere to go when they get out of high school. It doesn’t have to be this way.
All individuals have the capacity to do great things, and to continue learning, to work and to contribute to their communities. Colleges and universities need help finding the right tools and supports to aid all young people in this quest, and families need education and advice about their options.
The consortium works with members of diverse communities to help higher education institutions implement programs that extend the dream of higher education to young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The programs target those individuals who previously were excluded from the college experience under the belief that “they can’t.” The consortium is bringing together members from all over Georgia to show that with innovation, compassion and the right resources, they can.
